Mail Order Gifts Instead Of Classic Shopping

March 7th, 2008

The apparition of more and more online stores and of course, of mail ordered gifts nowadays has made it easier to do shopping. Compared to only a couple of years ago when you had to spend countless hours searching for the right gift from store to store, you now have the advantage of shopping online, standing at your computer desk with a cup of coffee or tea near you and listening to the favorite music. You can see all the products on the computer screen and although the stores are located in different states, you do not have to move an inch.

Another benefit online stores offer you is that they are always open, including nights and Sundays and when shopping, you do not have to stand at an annoyingly long line. If you know what you are looking for, you can finish the shopping within a couple of minutes. If you have no idea what to get as a gift, do not worry, as online gift stores have many thousand of articles to choose from. Major online stores offer you the ability to customize the gift: you can either include a message, a text, some flowers if you are sending it to your loved one, you can select the desired color or you can include the items you have purchased in a beautifully arranged gift basket. In addition, of course, most of the major online stores allow you to mail order a certain gift you picked out.

Mail ordering gifts is very simple and secure. You will need a credit card and after you have selected all the desired products, the site will ask you for its information and the billing and shipping address. If you purchase more items at once or you have purchased from that store before, the shipping may even be free of charge. In any way, the mailing fees are not as much as you might expect.

If you do not what the person receiving the gift wants or needs, do not worry. This is often the most difficult part of the gift purchasing adventure: to buy something that the other likes or needs and with which to remember you by. If this is the case, there are online gift certificates that you can buy. When you are offering them to the receiver, he or she will be able to use them and buy whatever he or she wants. The method of purchasing these online gift certificates is very easy: all you have to do is to select the receiver’s address and to enter the amount of money that you want to pun on the certificate. Read more at http://www.giftbasketsvalentine.com

The receiving person will be notified either through an email or through traditional mail services that he or she has received an online gift certificate. The message will also contain the certificate’s unique PIN number. The best thing about online gift certificates is that they can be used in very many online stores and they do not have an expiration date. Mail ordering gifts is a very convenient method to be looking for a surprise for a friend, a relative or the loved one. It has many advantages over wasting time looking from store to store in search for the perfect gift.

Vonage And The State Of The Residential VoIP Industry

February 25th, 2008

Considering their recent legal and customer service issues….Vonage did no favors to the residential VoIP industry. Neither did the untimely and messy demise of SunRocket. So just where do things stand now…and where may they be headed?

Vonage’s biggest competition (and other independent VoIP providers) continues to mainly be the larger phone and cable companies, especially the ones that are bundling all of the various features (tv, internet, and phone).

Outside of the cable companies, Baby Bells, I think right now there are too many companies to list and too many companies without a successful plan thrown in the mix (think SunRocket).

For budget VoIP, there are lots of options today still. However, the legal issues that hit Vonage will likely bankrupt any of the budget providers. Although there’s a strength in numbers that reduces the odds of any major issues should that happen, unlike the SunRocket fiasco.

Right now the market is pretty much a free for all and too many people are jumping into the business without truly understanding it. E.g., “We have VoIP! It never works!” These companies don’t do the research into networking. Any glitches on the network will affect calls, call quality, etc. They dish out mega bucks (SunRocket) and flunk out because they’re so focused on solely one portion of it.

The common concern in VoIP applications is a flurry of issues from the home based segment: One Way Audio, dropped ATA connections, etc. If you really look at what is happening, specifically who is being used for the internet connection (e.g. Cable companies + VoIP = headache), and what equipment is used, you’ll see a pattern. It’s the internet provider not the VoIP service provide who is at fault in over 95% of the cases.

But the general public as a whole just doesn’t understand this. Until they do it will continue to be an uphill battle for residential VoIP providers.

Far too many companies don’t take this into consideration on the home segment. Think about Farmer John or Grandma Jane who know next to nothing about the technology calling your company for help that has nothing to do with you. “Your VoIP service sucks! Now I can’t even get onto Yahoo!”. As a courtesy you would help them even though their cable provider or ISP is to blame. So how do you offset costs from that?

Companies such as Cox, Comcast, Qwest, etc. are providing reliable service for a fair price and offer “all you can eat” packages with arguably descent customer service to boot. As companies such as Cisco further refine technology for the Cable/Carrier markets, more and more options are going to present themselves (such as DOCSIS 3.0 = 100Mbps +, etc), and the market for companies with the copper/fiber to your home are in a great position to control the experience and leverage existing business (think Verizon’s Fios).

However, I would argue that wireless companies are in greater position to displace or contend with companies such as Vonage. Again, you have a company that owns the transport, technology evolving at an amazing pace (e.g. WiMax, etc), and now you have a mobile delivery that will get better with time. I believe that options allowing for mobility and a cheap delivery to the masses is incredibly important (who doesn’t have a cell phone these days?), and I believe that if you own the delivery method, you are in a great position to provide cost effective solutions to the consumer.

Many arguments can be made about the current stability of wireless, but I’m optimistic that it cannot get worse :) . In addition, many arguments can be made about regulation surrounding these markets and that too can sway arguments - but politics drive me nuts, so I digress. I’ll stand by and argue that those in control of the delivery medium (wireless, copper, fiber, etc) are in the greatest position to provide good customer service, have the resources to ride thru legal issues, etc. because they have the benefit of an annuity stream …. and additional value added services should be a ‘no brainer’ for them.

The $500.00 A Month Plan

February 22nd, 2008

One way to make extra money or start a business of your own is by placing advertising which will pay a good profit. Selling printed information by mail can br financially rewarding. Classified advertising is the cheapest way to get into Mail Order and it is often possible to raise a fortune from these small ads. Just check any large publication such as Popular Mechanics, for their classified advertising section and you can see yourself the many ads.

These small ads, running month after month would not be there if they were not profitable and making money. according to some of the promotional material being sent around the country, you could make up to $500.00 or possibly more by running the following classified ads over your name and address. They ask you to pick up a top national publication and test either one or both under “Money-Making Opportunities” headings and watch the dollars come in. I did not run any of these ads myself but was told they really are both profitable. Here are the programs and the advertisements:

“How would you like to receive $25 daily and keep all the money? For complete set-up rush $1 to (Your name and address)”

“$500 monthly, work at home, receive money daily. For complete set-up send $1 to (Your name and address here)”

You are supposed to fill orders you receive with a copy of this sheet you are now reading. Make photocopies or get a supply printed to send as needed.

There are other variations of this plan, but all serve the same purpose: to sell printed information to people who are interested in making some extra money. (they say it is truly possible to make money with this plan).

If you study the many classified ads in the big national publications, you may get a better idea of what the leading companies in Mail Order are doing. You will get a better idea of how classified advertising works. if you have limited capital, it would be wise to run your ads in smaller publications such as small newspapers, small Mail Order Publications and adsheets.

If you have sufficient capital, some good pulling national magazines or Tabloids are:

*Popular Mechanics *Money Making Opportunities *Salesman’s Opportunities *Specialty Salesman *Mechanics Illustrated *National Enquirer And many others to numerous to mention.

Many such magazines tabloids and other good publications are available at your local news stand, library or through Mail Order. Many of them require a copy of the material you are selling with your ad and reserve the right not to print certain ads they feel may be injurious to the public or the image of their publication

Yes! You can start your own advertising and mailing business at home and keep finances ahead of inflation but be sure you are involved in the kind of program that gives you a reasonable chance to be a winner.

How Can I ‘Really’ Make Money Online?

February 21st, 2008

This is the age old question. Funny to think that anything about the internet could be ‘age old’ but here it is.

Ever since there was an internet for us all to use, people have been trying to profit from it. Many people have succeed, many are still trying.

There are plenty of scams out there promising you instant riches for only $137. The seller of this scam will show you proof that his method works by revealing his bank account. Of course this works for him, he’s selling the scam. His bank account is not proof that his ideas will make you rich. It is only proof that he is willing to cheat you out of your money. Why wouldn’t he be rich, he is collecting $137 a pop to tell his story.

What is his story? Probably something like, create an ebook, market it and watch the money grow. He will tell you that in order for you to create your ebook, you will need his $97 ebook software program. To market your ebook, you will have to buy his $197 marketing plan. It’s as simple as that. Wow, are you rich yet. No, but he sure is!

This is very much like the old mail order scams about stuffing envelopes. How many people fell for that trick? How does that scam work? Well you pay someone $24.95 for their informative booklet on mail order profits. When you get the booklet, you find out that in order for you to make money in mail order, you have to get people to send you $24.95 for your informative booklet on mail order profits. Sound familiar?

The only difference between that old scam and the new internet scams is the price. The idea is the same, it just costs you a lot more to get ripped off online.

So is there really any way for an honest person to make a legitimate income online?

Yes there is!

It won’t be overnight and it won’t be effortless. It takes time and work to build a business anywhere. Why would the internet be any different? If anyone tries to tell you different they are lying to you. They are just trying to get you to buy their informative booklet, translated = ebook.

If you want to build a business, you will have to be willing to work, research and be patient. Nothing happens instantly and no one is going to hand you the silver tablet with all the answers.

There is a lot of writing that goes into an online business. You have to write website content. You have to write a newsletter or ezine. You have to write articles. If you hate to write, you are looking into the wrong business.

Yes, you will find people who will sell you the special program that will allow you to get rich without any writing. The problem is, how did you find out about that program? The seller wrote a sales letter. Hmm… sounds like writing to me. And remember what we already talked about? There is no super software that will make you rich overnight. If someone were to create such a program, do you think you would be able to buy it for one hundred and thirty seven dollars? Hardly.

Let’s stay on track here.

To build an online business, you will have to own a website. To create this website, you will have to research a topic and write about it. You will have to buy a domain name, (this is cheap and you only pay once a year). You will need to find a good hosting company to host your site. This can be pretty inexpensive if you look around. This is a monthly expense that you will have to be able to afford before you even consider building a website.

Once you have your site built and online, your next job will be to let the world know you are there. This is the biggest job there is. It is a never ending task. No one will even know your site exists if you don’t work on promoting it. Many people will try to sell you information on marketing too. There is plenty of free information out there all you have to do is look for it.

Finally, once you have your site up and running, you have people coming to your site, you will need a product or products to sell or what was the point? The easiest way to get products is through affiliate programs. These programs will allow you to sell someone else’s product and make commission off your sales. You don’t have to stock anything, you don’t have to collect money and you don’t have to deal with shipping.

There are many good companies out there that offer nice commissions on their products. It really doesn’t matter what you decide to create your website about. You will find someone selling something that will compliment your site.

So, back to the original question. How can I ‘really’ make money online? The answer is by working at it. Put your pie in the sky dreams away and start writing.

Staying On The Funny Side - Of Mail Order Catalogs

February 20th, 2008

I ordered these new stilettos in the mail because the model looked great wearing them and I was convinced they were the very thing I needed to complete me. Well, that and sheer shawl with the beaded butterflies. The stilettos, just like the model, were everything I wasn’t. They even sounded cool - stilettos. I wasn’t sure what that meant, but I figured with a name like that they must come with a dark exotic man holding a platter of margaritas.

I should probably tell you that I am not a delicate woman. I bought a bikini this summer and never could get my entire stomach tucked into it - kept popping out on all sides like canned biscuits. Looked like I was wearing an inner tube and the bottom half of the bikini disappeared from view completely. Now that I think about it, putting stilettos on me made as much sense as putting an alarm system in a Dodge Dart. Yeah, now that I think about it, they weren’t me. But that had never stopped me before and it didn’t stop me now. Plus, they were only 25.99. And it is a rare day that I can turn down something that’s only 25.99 whether I need it or not.

When they arrived, they turned out to be slightly higher than I had pictured - kind of like Great Aunt Ethel gets slightly off balance when she’s had seven gin and tonics in the course of an hour. Four inches high. So high, that when I wore them they pitched me forward with every step and I could actually feel the formation of hairline fractures (not sure that’s what they’re called, but it sounded good when House said it) along with the whispered cries of my ankles begging for mercy.

Oh, but my calves looked good. And I pictured that model in the catalog and remembered that dream where I saw myself sitting in my future wearing cardigans and orthopedic tennis shoes and yelling at my afternoon soaps. And I entered into another one of those moments where I break from reality - like when I lost three pounds and thought I could pull off that tube top - and said what I often say when my purchases don’t make sense. I can make these work.

So every morning I practiced walking in them. And being the practical stay-at-home working mom that I am, I made smart use of my time by breaking in my new shoes while I answered my emails (ah, the joys of working from home) and allowed for my spray self-tanner to set in. This was in the midst of another lapse from reality where I was convinced I wasn’t really bright orange but rather one application away from looking like the model on the bottle. And everybody knows you have to let the stuff dry before you get dressed, so I had on this really little skimpy nightie that was what my husband referred to as my rape-prevention outfit - light blue and covered with tacky orange sunflowers that had been a gift from my great granny who had one just like it. My two-year old was napping.

Blame it on the delivery guy, but that’s how it started when he rang the bell to deliver my new CD box set: Six Steps to Uncover the New You which he apparently thought was a good purchase after taking in my nightie, orange skin, stilettos, and head full of pink sponge rollers. In fact, I think he was a little afraid because he sort of threw the package on the steps and left without even asking for a signature, making me have to walk outside to get it, pitching forward in my new stilletos with every step, like a chicken, while he gunned the engine and peeled off down the street.

That’s how I got locked out of the house and found myself standing on the front porch in that one moment of slow-motion sanity, thinking to myself this can’t be good before I hit full-fledged panic. The kind of panic that comes with knowing you’ve just locked yourself outside while your kid is napping inside - intensified by the knowledge that you are standing in front of God and all your neighbors wearing stilettos and a nightie that barely covers the crucial the parts and leaves the rest open to the elements, especially the neighbor’s dog who was already drooling at the sight of my plump thigh. Apparently, he didn’t care how orange it was.

I ran like a deranged colt to the neighbor’s house. No answer. To the other neighbor’s house. No answer. Until I had tried almost every house on the street except for the lady who borrowed my heating pad and never returned it. That wound still had not healed. My only recourse was the gas station on the corner. And so there I was clucking my way down Sherwood Street looking like a defective dollar-store mannequin in the middle of morning commute traffic, getting a lot of stares, one open-mouthed gape from a freckled kid on a bike, and an occasional honk from a well-meaning trucker taking pity on me- all the while trying my best to look normal.

I pretended like it was nothing out of the ordinary when I half-ran, half-limped past Little Mouse Daycare and waved to the forty-seven faces plastered to the chain link fence with expressions that said this was way better than when Jimmy threw up in the fish tank. I shuffled past Diamond City where the line of Vietnamese nail technicians waved cheerily and asked did I need my eyebrows waxed. At least that’s what I think they were asking - that, or it was some ritual chant to ward off evil, orange, spray-tanned spirits with stilettos. I passed the little Baptist church on the corner where a group of ladies chatting outside huddled up and started praying for me right there on the spot.

I passed all these places, never once considering that one of them might have a phone I could use - including the corner bakery where I smiled and for the first time in my life, kept on going. Okay, okay. So I stopped and got two bear claws and a crème puff. Sue me! I was stressed and I needed the extra energy for the last fifteen feet to the gas station. Only I never made it to the gas station thanks to the Barney Fife wannabe who pulled me over on the side of Sherwood - just an arm’s length away from the pay phone.

Long story short, I was picked up for something that had to do with indecent exposure. They wanted to get me for prostitution but decided that even street walkers know better than to put those colors together. And they are trying to get me in the police car and I’m hysterically screaming, My baby, my baby, and they think I’m talking in code, perhaps signaling my more dangerous street boss - an obvious conclusion for two hometown cops who’d seen one episode of Law and Order too many, and they reach for their tasers, or maybe it was just a breath mint but I tend to get worked up over things. And just as I’m screaming, Don’t tase me bro, don’t tase me, I see my husband driving up the street.

I swear I saw him hesitate before stopping. He denies it, but I saw the look - the look that said he was trying to decide which was worse - my wrath, or admitting to the cops that we were bound together in matrimony. And like the good man that he is, he talked me out of a ticket and threw me in the front seat of his car with a look that dared me to say one word. He didn’t want my side of the story. Never did let me tell it.

Now I use the stilettos to hammer stuff, which irritates my husband who says it’s an awfully expensive hammer and one that brings back stinging memories whenever I pull it out. Apparently, a couple of his golfing buddies happened to see the picture on the front page of the paper with the headline that said: Local Woman Gives Street Walkers a Bad Name.

But I’m all about finding the good in things. And I think there’s something to be found in that story. A message. Because don’t we all find ourselves at some time in our lives trying to shove our foot into a shoe that doesn’t fit? Trying to be something we’re not? So learn from me when I say that life was meant to be lived just the way we are. Embrace what makes you unique. Or you might find yourself clucking down the street like a chicken.

Mail Order and Changing Economic Conditions

February 18th, 2008

The free market economic systems of the world have always been subject to cycles of boom and bust. Today we live in a global village. The money markets of the world are all connected by super computers that enable financial transactions to take place at the speed of light.

Free market economies are based on the purchase and sale of products and services. This is all based on supply and demand. When the great majority of the people in any society are employed, they have money to spend. This creates a demand for products and services.

When people have money to spend businesses, large and small, are able to prosper and grow.

On the other hand, when there are not enough jobs and people don’t have money to spend, many businesses will suffer and many may be forced to close their doors.

Over the past generation or so, Americans have watched as large corporations and manufactures have moved their operations to countries where they can get cheap labor, while the job market in the U.S. continues to decline.

What does this have to do with mail order? The mail order entrepreneur has a distinct advantage over other businesses. The small business person may start some type of retail operation such as a dry cleaning establishment, car wash, video store, pizza shop or some other type of small restaurant. But he may find it difficult to keep the doors of the business open when there is an economic down-turn. However, mail order allows the savvy entrepreneur to be flexible. The retail establishment is confined to one location. However, the mail order dealer can offer products and services around the globe.

It’s very difficult, if not impossible, for the person who operates a small retail business to make changes when their business gets very slow. However, the mail order dealer who understands that economic conditions are constantly changing should be prepared to act accordingly when conditions change.

The mail order entrepreneur should understand that regardless of economic conditions, people are going to spend their money on things that they want, depending on what is taking place at any given time.

Let me explain: When people are working and have money to spend, they are more likely to spend their money on recreational activities and related products. Under these circumstances, the mail order dealer offers products and services related to this area of interest. Now, when the economy is not doing very well, and people fear that they may be laid off or even lose their jobs, they will be more cautious about how they spend their money. If a person was thinking about buying a new home or car, and things begin to look a little shaky, they are likely to hold off making these large investments.

What does the mail order entrepreneur do in this case? Of course, you sell them products, services, or information that are related to that particular situation. The person who wanted to buy a larger home because there is going to be an addition to the family may want to consider putting an addition on their present house, instead of buying a new house. The mail order entrepreneur could offer them information on the least expensive way to go about doing it. Small Mail Order Business – Helpful Tips

February 15th, 2008

Starting a small mail order business can be very profitable if done carefully from the beginning. I’ll share with you some of my helpful tips to get you moving in your own small mail order business.

Your small mail order business always starts out with a good product or service that you want to sell. Your product can be a book that you have created a how to DVD or another type of product. If you don’t have a product or service, sit down at your computer and start searching the internet for mail order products. There are many wholesale firms that would be willing to sell their products to you at wholesale prices. To get your creative mind working, you can sit down with a pen and paper and write down all your ideas for making a how to manual. These are best kind of products to sell in mail order. Think of what you are passionate about and write a 20-30 page booklet. Many mail order companies create their own how to manual from scratch and can make thousands of dollars. For more product information you can write to: Mail Order Associates, Inc., 120 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Montvale, NJ 07645.

After you have found your product or made your booklet, you will need to decide on a price for the product or manual. Most booklets can sell between $12 up to $39, the more pages you write and the more information you give to your readers. The cost to print your manual will be less than a dollar to make so your mark up is excellent. Create a simple 2-3 page sales letter with a great headline to capture your reader. You can print it with nice bright copy paper. Have someone critique your sales letter for punctuation and spelling corrections before you send it out.

If you are focusing on selling your how to manual through your small mail order business, there are several ways to sell your manual. I would recommend when you are first starting out to locate a good local publication that accepts paid classified ads. You could place a small classified ad about your manual. When someone responds to your ad, you can send them your sales letter. Now you have your first client with their name and address. You can continue to send them your updates or new products. Take some time and create a monthly newsletter to touch base with your new clients. Stay focused and continue to make new contacts and you will be well on your way to having a successful small mail order business of your own.
